watch England vs West Indies 1st ODI live

England Lions brought their tour of New Zealand to a discouraging close, slumping to an 84-run defeat in their Twenty20 match at Pukekura Park. The result means the tourists return home winless despite dominating the earlier four-day series for large parts.

Shanan Stewart was the match winner for New Zealand A, clubbing an unbeaten 88 from just 39 deliveries in his side's 227–6 in just 20 overs, while Gareth Hopkins chipped in with an 18-ball 41 at No7. The pair cleared the ropes nine times between them, with Stewart hitting seven sixes. Nobody escaped punishment for the bowling side, but Samit Patel came off worse than most, leaking 53 runs from his four overs.

Robert Key's Lions have proved no more attuned to the short form of the game .
