Sourav Ganguly who has been dropped from captaining Shah Rukh Khan’s IPL team this season. The name “Kolkata” has been dropped from all Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) merchandise.

The company is registered as Knight Riders Private Ltd and all vouchers are issued under this name. As the team belonged to Kolkata, with seven home-playing matches in Kolkata last season and with Sourav Ganguly’s involvement in them, the brand used for the team name and the merchandise was “Kolkata Knight Riders” in IPL1.

“If the matches had not shifted from Kolkata, the merchandise would have continued to have ‘Kolkata’ Knight Riders written on them,” said the source.

“KKR is more popular as Shah Rukh Khan’s team than for Kolkata. So, merchandise sales will not be affected. Also, shifting base to other cities like Ahmedabad will help the company manage its administrative issues better and keep it away from more controversies. Dropping ‘Kolkata’ from the team’s merchandise will bring worldwide appeal,” said the source. Reebok sources said merchandise sales in India had dipped by more than 30 per cent this year compared with last year but the opportunity to sell merchandise the world over had opened up. “So, there may not be a dip in overall revenues,” said a source.

Even before the incident, most cricket teams choose not to tour the country because of security concerns.

By the time he was bowled by Shahid Afridi for 58 off 62 balls, the damage had been done with Australia well ahead of the run rate and only 25 runs from their target. Michael Clarke's unbeaten 39 and 10 from Callum Ferguson saw them home.

Matthew Hayden was absoutely brilliant.After watching him play, I thought that we were lucky that that he was on our side.Other players are good too - Hussey, McCullum have made tons.But the sheer innovation of Hayden left me amazed.Who else could reverse sweep Shaun Pollock (If I am not mistaken) for four.Even Sachin was impressed.And what about that cheeky shovel??? Mind blowing.

Raina is fast developing into an extremely valuable player.The way he matched Hayden shot for shot was absoultely brilliant.Dhoni too did not disappoint in the end.

But what I was disappointed about was the poor show by Parthiv Patel.I feel that the cap on no. of foreign players has reduced the quality of the cricket.Surely Fleming could do better than Parthiv.

I did not see our bowling for two reasons -

1. I was sure that we would win with 208 on the board and Mumbai without Sachin

2. I don't like to see bowling

Contrary to my expectation, Mumbai Indians gave us quite a close call.Sanath Jayasuriya was expected to cause some trouble, but Uthappa and Bhajji added to it.All said and done, we managed to win, and that's the only thing that counts.

The Hindu reports that Goni was responsible for restricting the run-scoring of the Mumbai Indians.All I can say is well done, we need more like you m'boy.

Buchanan also admitted he had a strained relationship with Shane Warne, who always disapproved of the coach's ideas when they played together, but added the bowler's outspokenness was always wondered about. 

"There was indeed a lot of attention given to the relationship I had with Warne. You must remember we are from opposite ends of the spectrum regarding personalities.

Australia captain Ricky Ponting is sure Mitchell Johnson's bone-breaking will be on Graeme Smith's mind when the South Africa skipper returns for Friday's one-day international.

Left-armer Johnson fractured Smith's left little finger in the Sydney Test match in January and two Tests later in Durban he the double, cracking the opening batsman's right little finger.

After missing the third Test in in Cape Town last and the two Twenty20 Internationals which followed, Smith has been batting confidently in the nets this week in Durban.
