Yuvraj Singh snapped up Jesse Ryder while Yusuf Pathan saw off Ross Taylor to rattle New Zealand after the hosts got off to a flier.

Suresh Raina took a good, tumbling catch to send back Jesse Ryder, who tried to blast Yuvraj Singh out of the park.

Meanwhile Brendon McCullum has brought up his second successive fifty of the series and looks good to rattle the Indian bowling attack further.

Ryder and McCullum rode the early storm from India's new ball bowlers and gave the hosts a great start.

Will Tendulkar's absence make any difference to New Zealand? "I am sure it does, but they have still got Sehwag, Dhoni, Yuvraj and Raina. So they still have a pretty strong batting line-up. We saw how well Sachin played the other day. To know that he will not be in the side will be a lift for our bowlers," he said."It is a skill issue of not being able to execute their plans. Or it maybe a mental issue with being apprehensive and almost trying too hard not to get hurt rather than just trying to grab the ball and do as well as you can.

"We just have to try and execute the plans that were set out for us. So far, in the last couple of games we haven't quite been exact enough with our execution.

Sachin Tendulkar (163 not out) registered his highest score in New Zealand - his first hundred in New Zealand, eclipsing his 84 at Dunedin on March 12, 1992.Tendulkar's innings is the fourth best against New Zealand - the top three being Sachin's 186 not out at Hyderabad on November 8, 1999; Matthew Hayden's 181 not out at Hamilton on February 20, 2007 and South African, Dave Callaghan's 169 not out at Centurion Park on December 11, 1994.

Tendulkar's outstanding knock is now the second best in New Zealand, next only to Matthew Hayden's 181 not out for Australia against New Zealand at Hamilton on February 20, 2007.

Tendulkar's innings of 163 not out off 133 balls is the highest by any batsman at Christchurch, eclipsing West Indian, Gordon Greenidge's 133 not out against New Zealand on March 29, 1987.

Tendulkar had suffered a painful blow from Blackcaps fast bowler Iain O'Brien during the second ODI at Wellington.

Despite stiffness in the abdomen region, he played the third game and aggravated the injury while scoring a magnificent century, his 43rd in limited overs cricket. An MRI done yesterday at a hospital in Christchurch revealed that there had been traces of internal bleeding, ruling him out of tomorrow's match here.

"The report has indicated there has been internal bleeding in the stomach. But I should be ready to play in the next couple of days," said Tendulkar.

Tendulkar's chest had been peppered with bouncers in the Caribbean. But despite suffering clots on the rib-cage, he had braved to take on Mervyn Dillon's artillery in the 2002 series against the West Indies. His ankle, elbow, back, foot and little finger have troubled him one time or the other during his illustrious career.

But this is the only instance when internal bleeding has stopped him from playing, frustratingly when he has been producing delectable symphonies at the crease. It is learnt that the team wanted him to go continue and score a double hundred. In fact, he had been offered a runner as well. But Tendulkar had put team before self, deeming it would benefit the side if he retired.
