Dravid has taken the vast majority of his catches from spinners -- 99 from Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh alone -- a feat that Waugh rates highly because there is often less time to react.

Waugh, however, was not ready to judge a slipper on the great catches they take but on the number of catches they dropped.

"I actually think they should have a statistic of how many catches you drop, like baseball - that's probably the best judge of how good a catcher you are," Waugh was quoted as saying by 'Sydney Morning Herald'."Obviously there's reflexes, there's hand-eye co-ordination and there is concentration and you probably need all three in both (batting and fielding)," he said.

Waugh said Australian captain Ricky Ponting, who has racked up 148 catches in 131 Tests, would be the one who can dislodge Dravid.

Among current players, only Graeme Smith (104 catches from 77 Tests) is likely to challenge the top order.

Khan fully deserved his wicket as he beat both Ryder and Brendon McCullum regularly in a fiery start to the afternoon session by the seamer."It is just that I was angry with myself for getting out the way I did," he added.

The dismissal apart, Ryder was happy to come up with his maiden double century when the team needed it most. "Definitely, it is a good feeling to get my career-best score. I just went out there and stuck to my game plan and that worked for me. The double is really big for me," said Ryder.A tough competitor on the field, Ryder said he was relishing the experience of playing against some Indian cricketers whom he watched on television all his life.

"It is a great experience. They are a world class team and to play against them has been great.

Taylor was also full of praise for Ryder, who scored his second successive Test hundred and was 137 not out at the close.

"I've got to praise Jesse for his maturity and for keeping me going. Hopefully I did the same for him.

"Jesse was a big help throughout the whole innings. He was geeing me on a lot."

Despite the good start, Taylor felt the team would need to add another 200 runs to be competitive against a strong India batting line-up.

"You don't often get 350 on the first day. It's something for the team to be proud of but it's only halfway there," he said.

Sachin Tendulkar admits that the current success the Indian team is going through are the most exciting times of his career.

The master batsman, who has 85 international hundreds - 42 in Tests and 43 in ODIs - said team's victory in New Zealand was indeed satisfying.

"It is good for Rahul (Dravid) and myself to be part of a winning team here. We've been here on earlier tours, but it wasn't so good. But it is better late than never.

"It is exciting time for Indian cricket. It has been quite satisfying. The Test victory is very special. We have been able to achieve that in the last few years wherever we have travelled. I am glad that we made it possible here as well," said Tendulkar, who had a strenuous net session at the Eden Park.
